Students enrolled in an academic program in Türkiye for three months or longer are obliged to acquire a student residence permit as per the Law on Foreigners and International Protection.
The student residence permit gives you the right to stay in Türkiye during your study period. All international students, regardless of status, must apply within one month of arriving in Türkiye. You make an online application and then submit your document file.
The International Office guides you through the process and submits your hard-copy file on your behalf. It remains your responsibility to prepare every required document and hand it in on time — complete your documents right after registration, otherwise you will have to submit them to the Immigration Office yourself and your card will arrive late.
Important notes
- Turkish citizens and blue card holders do not need a residence permit.
- Students who will be abroad during their education period are not required to apply.
- If you leave Türkiye before obtaining the residence permit document, fines or entry-ban procedures may be imposed by the relevant authorities.
- You are responsible for extending your residence permit according to your study period.
- Applications made from abroad are invalid — you must be in Türkiye to apply or extend.
- If you already hold a short-term residence permit you can make a “transfer application” for the student residence permit.
